I am the 1%
According to The Week Magazine (another magazine my mom subscribed me to-- do you see why I never get around to reading books!?!):
The world’s richest 1 percent, and more

To be counted among the world’s richest 1 percent, a single individual has to earn just $34,000 a year. Members of the planet’s true middle class, meanwhile, live on just $1,225 a year.

Averaged out of course... They obviously didn't take in to consideration the cost of living for a given geographical area. There's no eau anyone in the middle class can live in the SF Bay Area on $1225/year. Rent for a 1br 400sq ft apt goes for about that much per month! Yeah, I probably do earn more than a middle class Somali, but I also don't live in Somalia. Apples and oranges.
@Saferia - Yeah, I thought of that.... just thought it was interesting to think about. I wish I could pay some Somalia-based rates though, eh!
