infected!
Wednesday afternoon I was bitten or stung by some kind of insect. I couldn't find the culprit after it happened. By Thursday morning, the area was red and itchy. I figured it was a fire ant. By Friday it was red, swollen, hard, hot, itchy and spreading.
Kyohei went to Walgreens to ask about some medicine for his whining wife. The pharmacist said it sounded like an infection and I should go to the doctor right away. Since I am very attached to my right arm, I went to an Urgent Care clinic immediately.The doctor said it is an Staph infection! Not cool. I am now taking Doxycycline, an antibiotic for 2 weeks. I'm not sure it is working yet. I feel like hell.

Oh my gosh- that's so scary! I would have expected it to be a bug bite too! Thank goodness you got to the doc! Speedy healing!!!!!!!
oh that is so totally a staph infection...i wonder why they picked doxy and not a cephalosporin though? ANyway, hope you recover soon, and hello again, its been a while
@Rveblade - Oh! I'm so glad I have a doctor in the house.... is cephalosporin a sulpha? I may or may not be allergic, there was a hives incident. But that also could have been from all the zinc and pineapple-orange juice I was drinking. I know, I know side-effects fail. At any rate, I'm trying to avoid the sulphas just to make sure.

@aurore69 - EXACTLY what I was thinking. Still going strong on my New Year's Resolution to stay out of the hospital.
@justgotspaid - no cephalosporins are a drug class all their own like keflex. But they do have 5% cross reactivity with penicillins.
@Rveblade - Wow, thanks for the advise! I will keep that in mind if this Rx doesn't take care of the job.

@Saferia - yes, thanks! The 2 weeks of antibiotics did the trick. It was amazing how much it tired me out though.
