horror
I just finished reading, "Push," by Sapphire, the novel the movie, "Precious" is based on. This is by far the most terrifying reading I've ever done. This is a very well crafted story and the book certainly deserves all the awards and recognition it received. I'm just really, really thankful I did not have family members who sexually abused me. Besides scarring me emotionally (the way movies like Blindness and Book of Eli have), this makes me even more suspicious and hateful of men in general.
Are we all just potential rape victims?? What is wrong with people!?

I enjoyed the book, but will probably never read it again (heavy, like "Schindler's List" is great film, but you can only watch those horrific acts 1 time). AND I read the book in high school to boot! I saw the movie last year. Though often horrifying, I felt that many of the tough scenes were done tastefully.
Yes, I agree. There are some messed up people in this world that should not be allowed around children/ the rest of humanity. =(
I've been recommended, "Blindness" by a few people... I'll decide after reading if I want to view the film. I've got one of Saramago's short stories on my current reading list. I read, "The Road" last summer and was traumatized, even more-so by the movie trailer I stupidly decided to watch after I read the book...
