So we are going to give NorKor some aid.

U.S. Emergency Flood Assistance to the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (D.P.R.K.)

    Media Note
    Washington, DC
    August 18, 2011

In response to humanitarian needs arising from recent flooding in the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (D.P.R.K.), the United States will provide emergency humanitarian assistance to D.P.R.K. The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) will contribute up to $900,000 in emergency relief supplies to North Korea's Kangwon and North and South Hwanghae provinces through U.S. NGOs. Following severe flooding in September 2010, USAID provided $600,000 in emergency relief supplies to the D.P.R.K.

This emergency relief demonstrates our continuing concern for the well-being of the North Korean people. The United States supports emergency humanitarian assistance to the people of North Korea in accordance with international standards for monitoring. It has been the United States’ longstanding position that the provision of humanitarian assistance is separate from political and security concerns.

  • 80

Today would have been my Grandma's 80th birthday.  I wish I could call her and wish her happy birthday like I did last year.  I miss her so much still.  I can still hear her voice in my ear, "I love you sweetheart."

    I love you too, Grandma

In other news, the staph infection continues its reign of terror.  I just slept from 2-7 today without even trying.  If I can fall asleep tonight, it will be a miracle.

  • horror

I just finished reading, "Push," by Sapphire, the novel the movie, "Precious" is based on.  This is by far the most terrifying reading I've ever done.   This is a very well crafted story and the book certainly deserves all the awards and recognition it received.  I'm just really, really thankful I did not have family members who sexually abused me.  Besides scarring me emotionally (the way movies like Blindness and Book of Eli have), this makes me even more suspicious and hateful of men in general.

Are we all just potential rape victims??  What is wrong with people!?

  • infected!

Wednesday afternoon I was bitten or stung by some kind of insect.  I couldn't find the culprit after it happened.  By Thursday morning, the area was red and itchy.  I figured it was a fire ant.  By Friday it was red, swollen, hard, hot, itchy and spreading.

Kyohei went to Walgreens to ask about some medicine for his whining wife.  The pharmacist said it sounded like an infection and I should go to the doctor right away.  Since I am very attached to my right arm, I went to an Urgent Care clinic immediately.

The doctor said it is an Staph infection!  Not cool.  I am now taking Doxycycline, an antibiotic for 2 weeks.  I'm not sure it is working yet.  I feel like hell.
